What does it cost? (Pricing and Payments)

It’s free to sign up and list your items and there’s no fee for browsing other people’s listings on the platform.
Big Mooch receives a “success fee” from the ‘Lister’ only, once a successful hire arrangement has been made (This can be considered and factored into the item hireage price, by the ‘lister’, when listing).

How do I set a hireage price for my items?

Lenders are responsible for setting their own hireage prices. If you’re listing an item and you’re not sure how to price it, you can:
Check out what price similar items are hiring for near you, and setting your price towards the lower end of that scale (borrowers come to Big Mooch looking for great rates).

How do lenders get paid?

When you lend an item, our administration team (hello@bigmooch.co.nz) will send you an email to notify you of the arrangement and reserved date of the rental along with a request for the lenders bank account details. The due amount will be transferred within 24 hours of the start date of the rental. This will normally appear in your account about 2-3 working days after the start date of the rental.

Are lenders earnings taxable?

Lenders are responsible for paying their own tax obligations.

How does payment work for borrowers?

When you book a date for the item your reservation will be added to your shopping cart. You will then proceed to checkout and submit your details to place your order.
Payment is made automatically via debit/credit card using the secure gateway provide Stripe.

Am I covered if the borrower decides not to return the item?

Yes our partnership with New Zealand’s leading insurance company VERO have your items covered for up to value of $20,000.

What if my item has been returned damaged?

As a lender your covered for damages to your item apart from wear and tear and minor cosmetic damages.

What if a borrower has returned my Item late?

If a borrower is late they are liable to pay for extra day’s rental fee which must be processed through the Big Mooch website. Please contact hello@bigmooch.co.nz

What is the process for unreturned/damaged or late returns?

Most repair/replacement cases are settled directly between the borrower and the lender. If both parties can reach consensus, this can be quicker and sometimes cheaper for the borrower. The majority of these cases are settled within 24 hours.

Who is liable if an item is unreturned/damaged or returned?

Our borrowers accept full liability for the items they rent on Big Mooch, so if for any reason they’re unable to return your item as agreed, they are liable to pay for its full value.

What is the verification process?

Borrowers are required to supply a photograph of a valid passport, driver’s license or 18+ card. This information is safely stored and used if needed for insurance purposes.

What is the cancellation policy for lenders?

You won’t be charged for cancelling a rental, unless it’s within 48 hours of the rental start date — in this case, you’ll be charged a fee of up to the full rental value. Please contact hello@bigmooch.co.nz to cancel.

What is the cancellation policy for borrowers?

There’s a 48-hour cooling off period in which you’ll be fully reimbursed if you cancel a rental you’ve booked. Please note that if you book a rental within 48 hrs of the reserved booking date.
If you cancel after the 48-hour cooling off period, but sooner than 48 hours before the rental start date, you’ll incur a fee of 30% of the rental amount — the remainder of the rental amount will be refunded to you. Please contact hello@bigmooch.co.nz to cancel.
